Information we collect

You do not need an account. We handle the tree quantity and currency you choose, together with commercial and transaction information such as an order reference, amount, currency, project, and payment, fulfillment or receipt status.

Stripe makes your checkout email address and limited transaction information available so we can fulfill the order and send its receipt. We receive technical and internet activity information generated when you use the site, which may include your IP address, pages viewed, referring page, approximate location, browser, device, screen information and interactions such as starting checkout. If you contact us, we receive the information you include in your message.

We do not receive or store your full card number or card security code, and our application does not maintain a separate customer account database.

Where information comes from

We collect information directly from you, automatically from your browser or device, and from service providers involved in your order, such as Stripe. We may also receive fulfillment and delivery status from Ecologi and Resend.

How and why we use it

We use personal information to select an initial display currency based on your approximate country; process payment; fund the trees you buy; send a transactional receipt; show order status; generate a downloadable certificate; answer questions; prevent fraud and abuse; secure, troubleshoot, operate and improve the service; keep accounting and tax records; enforce our terms; and comply with law.

We use information as reasonably necessary to provide the service you request, meet legal obligations, and pursue legitimate business purposes such as securing and improving Plant a Tree. We ask for consent when applicable law requires it.

Payments and receipts

Stripe hosts checkout and processes payment. Stripe may collect your name, email address, billing information, card details and fraud-prevention signals under its own privacy terms. We do not receive or store your full card number or security code.

Stripe stores order, tree-fulfillment and receipt-delivery status so we can complete a purchase without creating a customer account or maintaining our own order database. After fulfillment, we send your checkout email address and receipt contents to Resend solely to deliver the transactional message.

Tree funding

After Stripe confirms payment, we send Ecologi the number of trees, the funder name “PLANTATREE.SHOP”, and a technical order reference used to prevent duplicates. We do not send Ecologi your name, email address, card details or billing information as part of the funding instruction.

Analytics

We use our self-hosted Umami service at actions.plantatree.shop to understand aggregate site use and improve the experience. This may include pages viewed, referring pages, approximate country, general browser, device and screen information, and interactions such as starting checkout.

Umami does not set analytics cookies, create advertising profiles or follow you across unrelated websites. We do not intentionally send names, email addresses, payment details or card information with analytics events.

How we disclose information

We disclose information to service providers only as needed for their roles: Stripe for payments and order records; Ecologi for tree funding and the public impact count; Resend for transactional receipts; Vercel for hosting and security; and our self-hosted Umami service for analytics. We may also disclose information to professional advisers, regulators, courts or law enforcement when reasonably necessary to protect rights, prevent harm, comply with law or respond to valid legal process.

If our business or assets are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization or sale, information may be disclosed and transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.

No sale or targeted advertising

We do not sell personal information for money or other valuable consideration. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, use it for targeted advertising, or use it to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. We do not offer financial incentives for personal information.

Because we do not currently engage in these practices, there is no separate sale, targeted-advertising or profiling opt-out link. If that changes, we will update this policy and provide any choice required by law before beginning the practice.

Remote content and processing locations

Our server asks Ecologi’s public reporting endpoint and profile for the impact count; your browser requests the result from Plant a Tree rather than contacting Ecologi directly for it. Receipt emails may request the optional DM Sans font from jsDelivr when the recipient’s email client permits remote content.

We and our providers may process information in the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries where privacy laws may differ from those where you live. Where applicable law requires it, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

Retention and security

We keep transaction, receipt-delivery and accounting records for as long as reasonably needed to fulfill purchases, provide support, prevent fraud, meet tax or legal duties, and resolve claims. Resend may retain transactional delivery records under its terms. Hosting and security logs are retained for limited operational periods. Analytics information is kept only as long as useful for aggregate service analysis.

We delete, anonymize or restrict information when it is no longer needed, subject to legal retention requirements. We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.

Cookies and browser storage

Your currency preference and a short-lived flag that prevents a completed-purchase event being counted twice are stored locally in your browser. Plant a Tree does not use advertising cookies, and our Umami analytics does not use analytics cookies. Stripe may use necessary cookies and similar technology on its hosted checkout for payment, security and fraud prevention.

U.S. state privacy rights

Depending on where you live and subject to legal exceptions, you may have the right to confirm whether we process your personal information; access it; correct inaccuracies; delete it; obtain a portable copy; and opt out of a sale, targeted advertising or certain profiling. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising a privacy right.

Send a request to support@plantatree.shop. Please describe your request and the email address or order reference connected with the information. We may need to verify your identity before responding. Where permitted, you may use an authorized agent; we may request proof of authorization and verification of your identity.

If we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision with “Privacy Appeal” in the subject line. We will explain our response and, where required, how to contact your state attorney general or another regulator. Residents outside the United States may have additional rights under the law where they live.

Children’s privacy

Plant a Tree is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. Purchases may be made only by someone who is at least 18 and legally able to enter a contract. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it when appropriate.

Changes

We may update this policy when the service or law changes. The “Last updated” date above shows when this version took effect. If a change materially affects how we use information already collected, we will provide any notice or choice required by law.
